The score ranges from 50 to 100, starting at 50 to encourage continuous improvement and maintain the Driver's motivation.
Personalized scores are available after 100 miles of driving data is accrued.
The score assesses driving performance based on a 4-week rolling window, reflecting the most recent 4 weeks of data.
Drivers are scored based on safety events per 1,000 miles driven, ensuring fair comparisons, regardless of distance driven. Fewer events result in a higher score, with the maximum score being 100.
Scores are updated every Monday.
How are unsafe behaviors weighted in the Safety Score?
By default, Motive assigns a weight to each behavior.
The higher the weight a behavior is allocated, the higher the behavior's impact on the score.
The Safety Score changes based on the rate of safety events generated.
Reducing safety events improves the score, and increased safety events cause the score to decline.
Safety events in the dismissed status don't impact the Safety Score.
How is the Safety Score calculated?
The Safety Score starts at 100 and then is deducted based on the event rate for each behavior over the 4-week period. For each unsafe behavior, the event rate is calculated based on the number of events generated per 1,000 miles.
Event rate behavior = (count of events / miles driven) * 1000
Then, the behavior impact for each behavior is calculated based on the event rate percentiles from all drivers. The Safety Score Points Table report in the Fleet Dashboard indicates how points are deducted across behaviors based on event rate.
The final score is then calculated by subtracting the sum of impact across all behaviors from the maximum score of 100. More safety events generated lead to higher points deducted from the score.
Safety Score = 100 - (sum of impact of all behaviors)
How should you evaluate the Safety Score?
Safety Score performance ranges indicate the risk profile of the Driver.
By default, Motive determines the definition of a fleet's performance range based on the vehicle class and dashcam model.
Note: Motive Safety Score is designed for companies to manage and improve their driver safety performance, without any involvement from regulatory authorities like DOT, FMCSA, or any other regulatory authority. This is solely designed for the company's driver safety performance.
